Lower emissions, stronger economies: climate solutions that upgrade job quality.
Most people don’t connect climate action to their daily paycheck. But the truth is—how we power our homes, the jobs we choose to support, and the technologies we back are already shaping our incomes, our bills, and our communities.
If we want better jobs, stronger local economies, and more security for the next generation, the time to act is now: at home, at work, and together. Clean energy, decent work, and smart innovation can cut emissions, grow economies, and create stronger, fairer communities.
Across energy, work, and innovation, our today’s choices shape tomorrow’s paychecks. And our sustainable actions can unlock good jobs and stronger futures.

1. UN SDGs Intro, and Review of SDGs 1-6:
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) are a set of 17 goals designed to create a safer, healthier, and more equitable world by 2030. But for many people, these goals still feel abstract—like they’re for diplomats, not for daily life.
So each week, I’ll break down a few SDGs and connect them directly to how we live, work, and make decisions today. We’ll focus on risk not as a statistic, but as a lived reality and a solvable one.
We began with the basics: shelter (SDG 1: No Poverty), food (SDG 2: Zero Hunger), and health (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being). Here’s a review of Aug 01, 2025 Newsletter. Last week, I shared simple every day solutions for education (SDG 4: Quality Education), equality (SDG 5: Gender Equality), and water (SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation). Here’s a review of Aug 04, 2025 Newsletter. And this week, we’ll explore: energy, work, and innovation.
2. UN SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
The shift to clean energy isn’t just about climate. It’s about lowering costs and building energy independence. From solar co-ops in rural towns to home weatherization programs in cities, clean energy can put money back in people’s pockets while creating local jobs.
Nearly 675 million people still live without electricity globally. In the US, average household energy costs rose 13% in the past two years, with rural families paying up to 30% more than urban households.
Everyday Solution:
- Sign up for your utility’s energy audit (often free) to find ways to cut bills.
- Switch to LED bulbs or smart thermostats, which can save $200+ annually.
- Join local clean-energy co-ops or community solar programs to lower costs and keep dollars in your region.
3. UN SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
A good job should provide stability, safety, and a path to growth. Yet too many jobs today leave workers undervalued and overworked. A fair transition to a greener economy means creating opportunities that improve (not compromise) people’s livelihoods.
Over 2 billion workers, about 60% of the global workforce, are in informal or insecure employment. In the US, nearly 64% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, and over 30% earn less than a living wage.
Everyday Solution:
- Support local businesses that offer living wages and benefits.
- Ask your employer about training for clean-tech or green economy jobs.
- Advocate for paid leave and fair scheduling laws in your state or city.
4. UN SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
From EV charging networks to resilient housing, innovation in infrastructure creates jobs now and saves costs later. Forward-thinking industries don’t just build products, they build opportunity.
Infrastructure investment gaps are projected at $15 trillion by 2040 globally, with climate impacts widening the gap. In the US, one in five miles of U.S. highways and major roads are in poor condition; climate-related damages cost $165 billion in 2022 alone.
Everyday Solution:
- Vote for local and state measures that fund resilient infrastructure.
- Choose products and services from companies investing in sustainable design and manufacturing.
- Share success stories, like new EV charging stations or green building projects, with your community to inspire change.
5. Video Reel of the Week
“We’re shortchanging the future by doubling down on outdated systems.”
In this 30-second clip, I talk about why investing in climate-smart innovation, like clean energy and resilient infrastructure, is the most powerful way to unlock better jobs and stronger communities.

6. Upcoming Events
🌎 A just transition isn’t just about cleaner energy, it’s about better work.
The future of jobs is being shaped right now by climate risk, tech disruption, and investment flows. The question is: who will benefit?
On September 19, during NYC Climate Week, the Emerald Summit will bring together the people funding, building, and governing solutions that can create both low-carbon economies and high-quality jobs. It’s a working room where finance leaders, founders, and policymakers will design strategies that:
- Grow decent, stable jobs in emerging green industries
- Support workers in transitioning sectors
- Keep communities economically resilient in a changing climate
If your business, school, or career depends on a strong economy, this conversation is yours to join.
Join us in New York and be part of the strategies that make both climate action and good jobs possible.
