Nature Targets: The Missing Piece in ESG

Table of Contents

We talk a lot about net zero.
But nature? Still treated like a footnote.

We can’t protect people if we don’t protect the systems they depend on.

Because nature is not optional.
It is the infrastructure of life.

I’ve spent years in boardrooms, guiding capital towards impact and inclusion.

Now I’m asking this:
→ Where are the nature targets?
→ Who’s accountable for forests, soil, clean air, and fresh water?

The new Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) guidance is a game-changer.

It gives corporates a clear path to set science-based nature targets—backed by data, action, and accountability.

And here’s the proof:
Companies like Unilever, IKEA, and Danone report 1-2% revenue growth and stronger customer loyalty after aligning operations with nature goals.

Science-based targets mean affordable food, clean water, and healthier homes.

They create jobs in restoration, reduce property risk, and strengthen public health systems.

And for business? Up to 2–3% higher returns when ESG is tied to core strategy.

The guidance outlines a 5-step playbook for corporates:
1. Assess impacts on forests, soils, water
2. Interpret data and identify hot-spot locations
3. Set and disclose science-based targets
4. Act to restore, protect, and transform operations
5. Track and verify progress over time

This isn’t about compliance.
It’s about survival—with dignity and accountability.

🎯 That’s why I’m raising this at the Emerald Climate Fintech Summit on Sept 19 in NYC, alongside Nicole Casperson.

We’ll explore how to structure capital and strategy around nature—so people thrive, economies prosper, and ecosystems survive.
